At the end of 2023, I attended the Dong-A Business Forum, themed “The Era of De-risking: AI Innovation and Survival Strategies.” One speaker opened their session with three key questions:
- Do you understand AI?
- Is your organization using AI?
- Does your organization have a clear AI strategy?
Most raised their hands for the first question, about half for the second—but hardly anyone for the third. That moment stuck with me.
Now, about 18 months later, would the answers be different?
Despite growing awareness of AI’s potential, many organizations still lack a clear strategy. While some have built AI teams, launched PoCs, or formed partnerships, the critical issue remains: Are these efforts truly aligned with business strategy?
AI adoption shouldn’t be about chasing trends. It must be driven by a clear purpose—what your organization aims to achieve and where it competes. Strategic alignment is what enables AI to create long-term competitive advantage.
Recently, PMI released Leading AI Transformation. It provides helpful guidance on AI implementation, outlining the roles of the PMO, TMO, and PMs in the process. While structures may vary, the insights are especially useful for organizations ready to scale AI adoption.
